Tour Itinerary

Day 01 - Arrive at Traivandrum ( In Kerala) and transfer to Varkala: We arrive at Trivandrum airport in the morning and transfer to Varkala for overnight stay at the Taj Garden Retreat. The day is at leisure.

Day 02: Kumarakom Transfer to Kumarakom where we stay two nights at the ethnic Coconut Lagoon, or Kumarakom Lake Resort, overlooking the vast expense of Vembanad Lake. The afternoon is free to relax by the pool, enjoy an Ayurvedic massage or visit the Kumarakom bird sanctuary.

Day 03: Kumarakom This morning we enjoy a backwaters cruise. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 04: Periyar We drive along the Western Ghats through tea and spice plantations to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. We stay at the exotic Spice Village for 2 nights. In the afternoon a boat cruise on Lake Periyar has been arranged, ideal for spotting herds of wild elephants and other wild animals on the banks of the lake.

Day 05: Periyar A visit to the nearby spice plantations is arranged for the morning with the afternoon at leisure.

Day 06: Cochin This morning we drive to the port city of Cochin for 2 nights stay at the Casino or Oberoi Trident Hotel (you can upgrade to the Brunton Boat Yard, Cochin's most exclusive hotel, for a small supplement). In the evening we enjoy a sunset cruise on the backwaters to see Chinese fishing nets.

Day 07: Cochin We visit the sights including the Dutch Palace, with its murals from the Ramayana, the Jewish Synagogue in Mattancherry and St Francis' Church in Fort Cochin. This evening we enjoy a Kathakali performance, a traditional dance form of Kerala. A meal in a traditional setting is arranged for today.

Day 08: Kovalam Today we drive to the Coconut Bay Beach Resort, tucked away on a secluded beach in Kovalam, for 2 nights. The resort has excellent facilities for Ayurvedic massage and an inviting pool.

Day 08: Kovalam The day is at leisure. We have the option to visit the wooden palace of the Tranvancore kings at Padmanabhapuram and to see handloom weaving at Balrampuram.

Day 09: Flight out Fly back or continue extension to North India or Ajanta Ellora Caves.

Season

Mid November to mid-April, mid-July to mid-September can also be considered when rainfall is minimal.
